Golf is basically a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls on a course in as few strokes possible. So, this article is totally about the history of golf from where it began.
The golf was originated in the 15th century Scotland. According to some historians, the game was originally originated in the Ancient Roman Empire where the players used a bent stick to hit a leather ball. The golf spread throughout Europe as the Romans conquered most of the continent. The game of golf was known as “Chuiwan” in the ancient China between the eight and fourteenth centuries. The game of golf came to Europe during the middle ages. It was known as “Cambuca” in England and “Chambot” in France. The Persian game “Chugan” is another possible ancient origin of golf. The game of golf was known as “Kolven” in Netherlands. That information tells us the origin and the History of Golf.
The modern game of golf was originated in Scotland. The golf’s first ever major championship i.e. “The Open Championship” was played on 17th October 1860 at Prestwick Golf Club, in Ayrshire, Scotland, with Scottish golfers winning the earliest majors. The game of golf came to U.S. in 1888. Two Scotsmen from the town of Dunfermline, John Reid and Robert Lochkart first demonstrated golf in the U.S. by setting up a hole in 1888. The America’s first ever golf club i.e. Saint Andrew’s Golf Club was also set up the same year in the New York.
